Follow up on Lou Dobbs for Governor

Author: Rory B. Bellows

The Star Ledger has a follow up on yesterday’s bombshell that CNN anchor Lou Dobbs was considering a run for Governor in 2009.

New Jersey Republicans favor U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie for the nomination, but former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan should not be overlooked. Lonegan earned fame when he led the charge to defeat two of Governor Corzine’s ballot intiatives. Lonegan also campaigned against the Governor’s 800% toll increase plan and was arrested at a Corzine town hall meeting for exercising First Amendment rights to assemble and speak.

Christie is a strong candidate in his own right. He has gained wide acclaim for convicting corrupt public officials including former Newark Mayor Sharpe James.

New Jersey Republicans will have a strong field to choose from next year and the last thing we need is some TV anchor using our state as a platform to boost his ratings.
