Corzine’s Budget Extends Energy Tax

Governor Corzine is once again not telling the full story when he trumpets his budget. The Governor will claim that the budget does not raise taxes, but that is a falsehood. The budget extends a public utility tax that was to be phased out in 2010 to 2013. This $246 million dollar tax will be a burden on businesses and residents.

    and of course cutting back property tax rebates isn’t technically raising taxes so he can say that he hasn’t raised taxes – even though in practice it clearly is. Even his fellow Democrats are uneasy about it.
    “Senate Budget Chairwoman Barbara Buono said the agreement reached between Corzine and legislative leaders “is based upon myriad assumptions, some which remain unresolved.”
