NJ Gas Tax Increase in the Near Future?

Author: Kari

Governor Jon Corzine announced yesterday on Fox 29 Philadelphia that he needs more funding to improve NJ’s transportation infrastructure. He declared a gas tax increase to be a last resort, but that Trenton must do something, and that something is likely to include toll increases.

Governor Corzine – you passed a budget exactly two days ago that you heralded as historic because of its absence of new taxes (lie*). Now 48 hours later you are declaring a need to fund something that apparently was not funded in said budget, and said funding will come in the form of a TAX INCREASE. What is a budget for? I thought it was in order to FUND THINGS THAT NEED TO BE FUNDED.

Yea, go ahead and brag that you passed a budget with no new taxes. We’ll see if New Jerseyans are as stupid as you think they are.

* Cutting property tax rebates and extending taxes that were supposed to be eliminated this year, in my book, equate to tax increases.
