A Republican with Guts

Author: Rory B. Bellows

There are some real Republicans left. Assemblymen Richard Merkt plans to introcude a bill to eliminate the Council on Affordable Housing. COAH has been nothing short of a disaster for New Jersey. This is not suprising because any attempt at economic central planning always ends up in catastrophe, but in New Jersey we are always the last to know.

Instead of a “mend it, don’t end it” approach, the GOP should take the opportunity to stand for something and oppose the COAH monstrosity. Mayors in the state hate it, developers hate it, pretty much everyone hates it. Well, everyone except the looters in Trenton and the moochers they give hand outs to.

The COAH is anti-free market, anti-business, anti-small government and anti-anything that is good and right with the world.

Here’s to New Jersey Republicans speaking with one voice on the issue, and here’s to Assemblymen Merkt, a candidate for Governor in 2009 who has staked on the lead on one of the key issues facing our state.
